Pittsburgh Tweetup

A place where Pittsburgh tweeters and tech/social media enthusiasts can unite.

@jen3700 sent me this link with what Vancouver is doing to help others who are in need. I think it's something that we should do here. I want to see if everyone is game. If you are, I'll set something up in January. I know that there are news folks on Twitter and the paper as well and hopefully we can get some buzz around it and help folks in need.

Let me know you thoughts. Here is the link: http://www.miss604.com/2008/12/vancouver-tweetup-heatup.html

Thank you for posting this here! I am starting a discussion with a few folks on Twitter who are very interested in helping and pulling together resources. I'm sure everyone will be interested and will be willing to help promote on blogs and such. I'll be in touch!

Great idea! Let's do this, the sooner the better. We all know how January weather is around here.

I am totally in, and have already started talking to ELPC about donating to the shelter there.

Anything new details happening with this?

Well, we could take clothes to ELPC to donate to the homeless anytime. Can we make a date to do this?

I think Gwen's suggestion is a good one. I will talk with Gwen to decide a good date. I'm thinking sometime during the week of January 26. That way, we'll have time to talk it up and get people to gather their items. We can meet at the Harris Grill and then a few people can collect and deliver the goods after the meet up. We'll need a few large boxes/bags for delivery.

Gwen and I have decided on January 26. I will let the Harris Grill know that we will have a large group once we know how many people will be able to make it. The East Liberty Presbyterian Church has a men's shelter which we'll be soliticing donations for. Please plan to gather cold weather items for men of all ages. Here is the ELPC's website: http://www.cathedralofhope.org/ I think 7:00 p.m. is a good start time. Let's do this!!!

Oh I'm so bummed out :( I teach on Monday nights *sigh*. I could go after, if I didn't have a 3.5 month old and she can only be apart from me for about 2 hrs. That would be waaaay to much to ask of her. Maybe I can swing by and drop off some warm clothes though! Barge in and get out!

If any of you would like to come take a yoga class before the Tweetup Heatup (possibly for those that aren't able to attend) and drop off warm stuff at the yoga studio, it would be another great way to bring some more buzz and expand it out to more folks....thoughts? Tweetup Yog-up? I'll see if I can speak with the studio owner about it. My class is generally from 6-7:15pm
